Description
“The Hope” (התקווה) was written in 2003 by Salman Masalha, a Druze Palestinian poet who has published work in both Hebrew and Arabic. This poem, written in Hebrew, subverts the language’s own symbolic codes to articulate a struggle between birth and death, destruction and creation, alienation and belonging, silence and speech, and despair and hope. The text was hand-set with vintage and newly-cast type; linocut by Amanda Porter.
