Description
This poem, which speaks of the ambiguities, tensions, and possibilities inherent in the task of assembling letters across languages and borders, was written by the German-language Jewish poet Rose Ausländer (1901-1988); the Yiddish translation is by Frid Vayninger. Ausländer was born and raised in Czernowitz (today Chernivtsi, Ukraine), and lived mostly in exile between the United States, Germany, and Romania. This piece was printed as part of a community workshop held in April 2024.
