As the Israel-Gaza war began in October 2023, I put this poster together as a reminder that we must hold sacred the humanity of others, even and especially now. Combining Mahmoud Darwish’s poem “A Soldier Dreams of White Lilies” and Yehuda Amichai’s “Wildpeace,” these lines speak to me of a commitment to life, a rejection of dehumanizing violence, and the belief that whatever paths the future may hold for us, we must find them together. All proceeds were donated to Standing Together and the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund. The poster was printed at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts in October 2023, using the Hebrew and Arabic wood type they commissioned from Hamilton Wood Type in 2019, along with the vintage English and Hebrew metal type in their collection.
