Description
This poster, drawing on the historical imagery of early modern printed haggadot, celebrates the three symbols of the Passover seder, as explained by Rabban Gamliel: the sacrificial offering (qorban pesah), the unleavened bread (matza), and the bitter greens (maror). The text is from the Passover haggadah, originating in the Mishnah, Pesahim 10:5. The three roundels were inspired by woodcut engravings from the historical haggadot printed in Soncino (1486), Mantua (1560), and Venice (1609), and were designed by Aaron Silver. This poster was printed as part of a community workshop at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts in April 2024.
