Description
The holiday blessing for Hanukkah (“…Who performed miracles for our ancestors, in those days, in our time”) has always seemed to me an encapsulation of what holidays are all about — collapsing time as we connect with our ancestral stories, celebrating the miracles that are not only in the past but still happening around us, in our own lives.
In some ways, this is also how I feel about printing! It’s something that is rooted in historical materials and practices, but very much happening in the present. It was fitting that this card uses my oldest Hebrew letters: antique wood type from the first decades of the 20th century, battered and worn with history, but still speaking to us and with us, here in the 21st century.
